The Case for Merino Wool vs. Synthetics

Amanda Douglas-McCaig in her blog post “Synthetic Materials for the Future? Think Again!” addresses the problems with light-weight synthetic outdoor clothing; including examining the ecological toll that use of synthetic materials exacts on the environment.  She strongly advocates for the use of merino wool whenever possible, as it has less environmental impact.  For those of us who spend substantial amounts of time outdoors, reducing our ecological footprint could be considered part of “Leave No Trace” philosophy and practices.
